Elder Connolly letter #28

Yo FAMMMILLLIAAAA!

Qué Arrriba?? Whats up?  Hows the snowww??  Well cooool, enjoy it!  I wish it were here...

Things are good.  Lifes busy, but I am getting way more comfortable with everything--physically,  I'm not so well. I'm tired ALOT, wow.  I don't think I'll ever be at 100% my whole mission, but somehow I always have enough energy to get me through the day. I am at 80 kilos, have a HUGE tan line, 5 o'clock shadow, a pop belly, and....tired alot.  But I am also learning alot, spiritually and emotionally.  I've grown a lot these past 6 months in Mexico, I hit my 8 month mark this past week-- crazyyyy, didn't realize until last night while talking with the other secretaries. Time is flyin!

The area.  We hope to have a baptism next Friday, his name is Jose Romero and  he is so awesome.  He' s the guy that has his shirt off in the picture of him and me with the guitar.  He's so ready.  I taught him to tie a tie, he went a bought one because he didn't have any and he felt awkward a church cause he didn't have one!  I would have given him one! haha.  He has a crazy story in life—I'll have to make a voice recording about him cause it may take a while to tell it all by typing it all out but we hope to talk to his family and wife-- we haven't really met them yet, it's just him so far.   They kind of avoid us, but its chill. He's super awesome.

pause: I just got a call from an elder, and at the end of the call, he told me my spanish is a LOT better than when I got here! yahoo!! unpause.

OK  Gaspar is doing well- he´ll have his 3rd time in the church this week and could be baptized this week too, we´ll see. And the Canul Family will be seeing the font sometime soon, I hope.

Also,  we had some cool new investigators this week, Eduardo and Hermano Estudío and a bunch of little kids, ages 9-14, that take a karate class at the ward!  Ha!  so I am stoked for them.

Well I am actually outtie.  We need to go eat at the bishops house at 2.  P day was cut wayyy short today, we had to go to a baptism in the morning and now with this, we´re leavin the offices early to get some more appointments in. I might write again on Monday, we´re cramped today. laterrrr

FAMILIAAA CONFFFFAMMMM!

whazzz goodddd? its a beautiful day here in Merida Mexico, blazzing hot, but I'm here, in my air conditioned office, listening to hymns and writing... the life...sorta. The 1 day of the week that's chillllll where I can sit back and breathe.  I made a recording, I talked about a lot of stuff that's going on, so I am actually gonna keep this letter short. we gotta bounce quick. but here are the Q´s

1.  do you still wear your retainers--day or night?
no... i should. ill start wearing them again.

2'. Did you move?  what is it like?
yes we moved to the new, better house. but we have to move back to the old house... it's a long story.  And also the other area might open up again, I talked about it in the voice recording.

3.  Is it starting to get hotter?

First off, it's always hot... haha. but it´ll get alooooot worse I am sure!  I have only heard about May and June ha, just wicked hot.  Sometimes it is cold in the night--but yeah, it's getting hottie.  Ask me in 2 months!

4. Need anything?

Yes. I want you to send chocolate ha. I don't really care what, but chocolate.  Maybe twix, they don't sell it here-- and snickers are super expensive.  I need more than my chile candy for my breaks/stress relievers ;) and please send me some seafoam from cummings mom, alot! and also if Costco has those german cookies that Lynn Bello loves, send more of them. and just be sure to put it in a sealtight bag that won't break open on the way. les amo ;)

Well, things are kinda crazy this week.  We have 23 missionaries coming within the next 2 weeks, and that basically means: wow... it's gonna be nutty.  We´re opening 9 areas, which means I have to supply 9 houses. and we also have a couple missionaries coming and that´ll be cool. But that means I need to buy more hammocks for the elders and hermanas and a bed for the couple, the first one in the mission´s history ha. soooooooo it´ll be interesting.

The work:  it's going really good in my area. it is supppper duper big area wise, but we have great investigatores. they might open the other half again this next week, which will be kinda of a relief, but that also means that half of our investigators will be lost, to us. I talked about them in the voice thingy.

I loved reading your letter this week-- wow, the Carters are going to Austrailia to be mission presidents!  Wow!  How cool!  And also Scott Knudsen´s getting married--- I got the card.  Also state basketball is next week. Good luck todd!  Take it again!   Mom and Dad are in St George, just lovin life. Get a birdie for me, dad!   And thanks for the updates.  I also  got a card in the mail from you mom!  thanks.  I think I better go.  Thanks for your prayers, support and e´ry thannnggg. Love you all! And if you have any q´s, just ask me. I feel like I'm missing alot ha. PEACEEE!

the pics:

1 is of mary and elder dominguez back in Brisas the day of her baptism Feb 4th.

1 is of the office crew right now, the 4 secretaries and the 2 assistants, one assistant is gringo so that's chill, I have someone to relate too ha. but I'm also learning a lot of Spanish here, which is fantastic :)

1 is just me and my comp walking, and the other attachment is this weeks voice recording I just recorded this morning.

Elder Connolly Mexico letter #26

YOO FAMMM!!!

how y´alll doin?   I'm greeeeattt!  I just got back from Raul´s baptism!!!!  I got permission to go, and it was sooo awesome!  I'll attach some pics.  There were like 30 people there and his wife gave a talk and testimony, wow!  It was powerful.  She cried and said she's waited a long time for this day... in that moment everything was all worth it!   Everything-- all my work. the mission. the time.  No words can describe it.  It was hard not to have a smile beaming from ear to ear.  What was also cool is that I got a lot of pictures with the ward members that  I didn't have the chance to get because I left earlier than I thought I was going to leave.  It was just awesome.

Sooo, my new area: called Aeropuerto-- or airport.  There are constantly planes flying over head. This week, we´ve been in the process of changing houses.  Right now I'm living in 3 different houses-- haha:  the offices, our old house, and the new house. PLEASE send me 2 more sets of mission clothes... or mom, is it ok if I take $10 and pay a taxi to move all my stuff to my new house.  Then I just need 1 more set of mission clothes. haha for real, all I need is a pair of gym shorts and athletic shirt, the thinnest and lightest pair you can find please, just to sleep in. The summer months are coming and its gonnnnnna be suppppeeerrrrr HOT.  Well anyway, our area is HUGE!!!  No me diga, it's so big.  There were 4 missionaries, and on Monday, as part of the transfers, they closed the other half, so now we have to work both areas.  but it is gonna be awesome, I'm supper excited for my new ward.  They are all super excited to help with missionary work and its about 4 times bigger in assistance than Brisas, my old ward.   Yes, I am suppa excited.

The offices~this past week has been the longest week of my mission.  6 am mornings and 12:30 am nights, 4 of the 7 days of this week.  The president has capacitations all week, starting with us!  We had tuesday, now he's in Chetumal, like 6 hours away.  Then he goes to Compeche and Cancun next week and the week after.  We had to make EVERYTHING for the capacitation, which had a theme of Ammon and the flock of sheep, and cutting arms off, and stuff.   I have never been so stressed in my mission.  I get like 40 calls a day( on average so far,  I've heard some days it gets up to 100+ calls a day....),  taking orders, sending things, checking statuses, writing emails, etc. and especially since I came on the transfer mark, it's hard, because there are lots to do with transfers.  Usually the secretaries come midway through the transfer and get trained a little bit for the rest of the transfer when its calm, everyone is settled and happy, before the maddess of transfers, or the old secretary stays a little bit to help the new ones, but its chill. I have to supply the houses if new areas open, set up the cell phones and deliver furniture to their houses.  I also have the job to sort mail and packages.... HOLY COW, its HEEEEEEckkk.. there are 175 missionaries, like 86+ areas, and I have to memorize each companerismo and area, district, zone, and put it into a shelf to send to them every Friday.  Takes FOREVER.  I was sooo stressed yesterday. then everyone calls me everyday, `Hey Elder Connolly, has my package arrived yet???!!!??`    "NOOO!!! it hasnt yet!``, regardless if it has or not ha. I learn quick ;) and I think I have about 10,394 more things to do, I still don't know my whole job description.  I just do what I think I'm supposed to do, then get yelled at, then I learn ha.  For example, Pres Salinas yelled at me because i didnt know where the envelopes were.... apparently i should have come engrained in my brain! haha, but its ok. another example, the other secretary yelled at me today because I called 2 taxis, on accident, then took another.  Oops!  It's chill.  The offices, so far, have been super stressful, but it's gonna be a lot of fun.

Daily schedule: wake up at 6:30. eat, chill, exercise, then at 8, study personal, then at 8:40, study with my comp, until 9:25, then we leave our house for the offices, about 30 minutes from our house, including bus ride and walking. then from 10 on we work in the offices, doing what we need to do, whatever it may be.  We just have to be back into our areas by 2 pm to eat with our members for the Comida.  Then we work in our area for the rest of the day, like 3 to 9.  Now that is how it should be... this week was literallll choas, holy cow!  With the new missionaries coming, missionaries going home, the capacitaion preparation, changing house... it's been crazzzy.

My comp: so he's not Mexican, like I said before.  He's from Peru, and his name is Elder Saurez. He's awesome.  We`re gonna have a lot of fun together—I'm stoked.  From what I remember from off the top of my head, he has a little sister, he was baptized when he was 8 but I think his parents are converts.  He lives close to Matchu Pichu, that Inca ancient city way up in the mountains-- already made plans to stop there post mish ha ;) . he's a stud!

So every Monday, we have a meeting with Pres and his wife. OH his wife... she is awesome, but SUPER strict.  She just looks for ways to planch us, or `iron us out...^.  It makes me wonder how AuntJjean and Uncle Rich were as mission presidents!  We didn't have it this week because of new missionaries and old missionaries leaving and coming. but I look forward for a closer relationship with my mission pres--I esteem him a lot, and want to learn a lot from him.

What else, I am writing whatever is coming to mind, which is alot.  Hopefully it made it to the paper with some sense.  Also,  I am going to send some other pictures-- Elder Dominguez gave me some pictures from the baptism of Mary last week, so I'll send those later or next week.  I am sorry-- I did some voice recordings but I don't have time to send them.  And also I wasn't able to give anything to eEder Jergenson before he left with his family. Sorry.

Well I love you all.  I'm outtie! Laterrr. thank you for all you do!

Elder Connolly letter #25

MEXICO CARTAA #25 ;)

Richard Connolly

Qué ONDA FAMILIA!!!!!

some POI´s that changed everything:

  1. so I got transferred
  2. I will be writing on Saturday from now on
  3. Today is my p-day
  4. I didn't get to go to my baptism this morning....
  5. I got a new job

What happened yesterday......:

we were in divisions and I get a call from the AP, Elder Jorgensen, who was my first ZL when I got here, just a stud, who is finishing next Monday (and hey, I'm gonna try and give him a package to take home for me, no promises, but if it happens, you should get it next week. His fam is coming to pick him up, and I am gonna try and send stuff).

Anyways, I call him back after we finish our lesson, and

he says, "Hey Elder Connolly, I got your transfers and  you are going to airport 2............." hey—I gotta call you back, peace."    Soooo at this point, I  knew I was leaving, but still had no idea where and just knew I was by the airport, which means Merida. but that's it.

Then I get a call from my ZL about 45 minutes later, he tells me "hey elder Connolly, I have your transfers, you wanna know?"    I was soo confused why everyone was wanting to tell me 3 days in advance-- ha.

But yeah, I asked, "well yeah, digame. and who is my comp?"

"well, one of the secretarys"

"oh cool, so he's gonna leave the offices?"

"no elder connolly, you are the new secretary."

"WHAT???"

Yep, crazzyyyyy, I never expected it. I'm the new mission secretary of materials. I got the call at like 5pm last night, and was moved out by 8:30pm and moved into the oficina by 9pm.  It has been a crazy past 12 hours. I've been going crazy, it was a restless night, I finally found some ZZZ`s at around 1:30 am, woke up at 4:30 am and couldn't fall back asleep.  I'm wayy nervous, but I'm also way excited for this opportunity. I feel wayyyy under qualified ha, but its gonna be fun. I'll be with 3 other Mexicans here in the offices, I'll still have my own house in area about 20 minutes from the offices where I'll sleep and proselite, but I'll be here in the offices everyday. It's pretty chill—I am writing this from my own computer! ¡qué fresa! haha. I'm just gonna say it now-----I'm gonna gain 10 more kilos while I'm in the offices haha---the LEGEND IS TRUE: they order pizza NIGHTLY!!! literally... but it's ok, I'll have time to burn it off when I'm released ;)

So with this, I have a new comp, obviously~ His name is elder Suarez and  he is the secretary of records. And also I have my new Papa, the old secretary of materials~ elder Vinay, who I'm taking his place, to train me for the next week, guiding me and showing me what to do.  Then I am off on my own.  So we´re gonna walk in 3 for about a week until he gets sent away to his new area.  There are 2 other secretarys: financial - elder Amador (translated as: elder Lover, haha awesome huh?), and executive secretary- elder Castañeda.

Well, updates on my OLD area BRISAS: .Mary got baptized at 10am this morning`I am gonna call elder Dominguez and see how it went.  Ulysis is doin' great, Ii was gonna baptize him tomorrow, before Monday when I was supposedly supposed to leave... its a bummer~but it's ok though.  And Raul is getting baptized next Saturday, and we have 2 baptisms the week after, Mary, the granddaughter of Mary that got baptized today, and ANOTHER Maria ha. I will be checking on them the next few weeks to see if they see the baptismal font as scheduled.

welllll, 1 SUPPPA bonus (of the many) of being in the offices, I get to read my mail BEFORE I write home  Mom, I got the singing card with you and dad singing ^Merry christmas from our house to your house^, that was sent 21 of December... haha 1 month and a half!  And it said FIRST CLASS stamped on it ha.  And I also got some dearelders! SOOO coollll, TODD is probably baptizing ABE right now as I am speaking! soo awesome! Todd, thanks for your letter bro, 4.0 and the basketball star! who won ¨freak east` yesterday? Go eat a BETO´s BREAKFAST BURRITO FOR ME!!! Love you brotha.

Well I am over and out.  I didn't have time for a voice recording, it has been non stop running around since 5pm yesterday. Next week I'll have some more info on my new area and job.  But yeah, enjoy the photos, I love you all. and mom and dad, enjoy the other side of MEXICO on your cruise next week! love you ALLLLLLLLL

CARTAA 24 MEXICO!

FAMILIA!

So—it  is January 30 and I am good!   What's up with you guys? chillllllllllll.

So-- we have transfers next week, we´ll see were I am next week, still in La CIBER Brisas, or maybe in Cancun or.... Cuba... ha I don't know.  My comp thinks were getting transferred, we´re having too much fun together he says ha!.  His reasoning: you get transferred when you have learned what you're supposed to learn from each companion.  He has told me he´s already learned what he´s supposed from me, which is to chilllll outt wayy more and have fun with your mission, we´re still 19 year old boys!  I have learned alot about organizing and stuff from him and how to get ready in the morning ha, so we can look more ¨presentable¨, in his words.  We´ll see what happens! KIA KAHA!

What else, ok Q´s

1.  DID YOU GET THE PACKAGE!!!????  You really should have it by now and I am going to be soooo sad if you don't get it!!!

YES!  I got it.  Thank you so much!  It was so awesome to get it.  The candy you sent with it exploded en route ha, everything had a nice peppermint taste to it ;) haha. I loved it.  Thank you for the pics everyone and also the calendar, it was great. I LoVe Mi FaMiLiA!

2.  Did the baptism happen?  Can't wait to hear all about it!!!!

wellllllllllll, nope.  It didnt.  She drank coffee...something she hasn't done forever...but there wasn't milk in the fridge on Friday morning haha, so she made it, drank it, then prayed for forgiveness.  Now she just has to wait 7 days.... haha!  I just had to laugh, as much of an excitement crusher as it was, it's chill ha!  This week……

3.  What happens with interviews at your apartment with the president?

ummmm it was a lot more chill than I thought it was gonna be.  It was going to be with his wife, but only he came, which is good ha. Hma Salinas is really strict with cleanness!  Ha!  But we just had interviews, he checks out the house, and that's it---only took like 15 minutes total, and he was gone!

4.  We loved the voice recordings!  What a cool present!

I'm glad you did!  I made another last night, it is attached.  Also my comp did a recording for you guys…… enjoy.

5.  If you can, today is the day you need to send the East Elders email.  If you can, send it separately.

ok, ill try

We had a good last few weeks.  I am happy, healthy, and in good shape.  I am trying to think of things I didn't say in the recording ha!  I gotta write the pres, then we´re on our way to Centro for lunch with the District1! Down!  I'm outtie….. love you all!   Hasta luego. LATERRR
